About the Study

The Northern Ireland Assembly Election Study 2016 (NIAES 2016) aims to analyse the political behaviour of citizens in the power-sharing context of Northern Ireland.  The study is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and is led by Professor John Garry of Queen’s University Belfast.

The NIAES 2016 is composed of several elements: a post-election citizen survey, an electoral candidate survey and an expert survey, as well as manifesto analysis and a series of experiments to understand what influences citizens’ attitudes. The study will provide an overall assessment of the extent to which consociational power-sharing structures help or hinder the development of high quality democracy.

This website provides information about all of the elements of our study. It also provides access to the research that we conduct and our contributions to wider society.
