iREACH Health will provide industry-leading facilities for unified clinical trials and research, while providing a more joined-up clinical research healthcare system in the Belfast region. iREACH Health will consist of two buildings located on either side of the Lisburn Road beside the Belfast City Hospital.
Designed to support the operational aspects of clinical trials, bringing together healthcare services, academic expertise, and industry partners under one roof. iREACH Health will co-locate health services, academic facilities, and an early-phase Contract Research Organisation (CRO) to create a collaborative environment that accelerates clinical trial progress and innovation.
iREACH Health will provide infrastructure to support the pipeline of clinical trial setup and delivery. By centralising the necessary resources to a single location, iREACH Health will streamline clinical trial operations, helping faster setup times, better participant experiences, and more robust trial outcomes.
A key feature is a negative pressure lobby, which will allow researchers to run trials on infectious respiratory diseases. This specialised environment prevents the spread of airborne pathogens, to ensure the safety of both trial participants and healthcare staff while enabling critical research on conditions such as COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses.
The iREACH Health innovation centre is designed to include as many of the support services and specialist rooms for clinical research such as an in-house research pharmacy, a specialist kitchen, and rooms for patient overnight stays with comfort and safety in mind, allowing for extended monitoring during clinical studies.
iREACH Health will also provide infrastructure to support the pipeline of clinical trial setup and delivery. By centralising the necessary resources to a single location, iREACH Health will streamline clinical trial operations, helping faster setup times, better participant experiences, and more robust trial outcomes.
iREACH Health will have a direct connection to the Belfast City Hospital via a link bridge, enabling seamless integration between research activities and emergency support services.
iREACH Health will leverage advanced technology to drive innovation in clinical research. By integrating patient data platforms like Encompass and digital tools such as the MyCare app, iREACH Health will streamline trial processes, enhance efficiency, and improve patient outcomes.
iREACH Health will play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant research and innovation ecosystem. It offers support for clinical R&D, providing resources that assist researchers and companies to conduct high-quality trials. This includes space for emerging life and health sciences (LHS) companies to scale up, offering the infrastructure and expertise necessary to grow and flourish within the industry.
iREACH Health will also act as an incubator for the increasing number of local spin-out companies from Queens University Belfast, providing facilities to aid a start-up company’s transition from research to commercialisation. By bringing together clinical trial operations, R&D, and entrepreneurial growth, iREACH Health will create an environment where innovation can thrive—driving forward not just individual trials, but the wider development of the healthcare ecosystem in Northern Ireland.
iREACH Health will be in a key location on the Lisburn Road, an arterial route into Belfast City Centre close to Queen’s University and Belfast City Hospital, with excellent transport connections.
