Terje Svingen is head of Research Group for Molecular and Reproductive Toxicology at the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark (DTU Food). His research focuses on how early life exposure to environmental chemicals can affect development and health, with special emphasis on endocrine disruptors and how they can interfere with reproductive development or the thyroid hormone-brain development axis.
Dr Svingen’s research team use in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo methods to study the effects of environmental chemicals, as well as perform chemical risk assessments and advisory task for regulatory bodies. Dr Svingen and his team are partners in two five-year EU funded Horizon 2020 projects on the development of testing strategies for endocrine disruptors: ATHENA (assays for the identification of Thyroid Hormone axis-disrupting chemicals) and FREIA (Female Reproductive toxicity of EDCs).
